Our surgical teams also take extra steps to make sure every surgery is as safe as it can be.

Surgery may be done on an inpatient or outpatient (also known as same day surgery) basis.

Inpatient surgery means you'll stay overnight at the hospital after surgery.

Outpatient means you'll have your surgical procedure and can go home the same day.

You'll find a full range of surgical services at the Alfond Center for Health (ACH) in Augusta, and same day surgery at the Thayer Center for Health (TCH) in Waterville.

Types of Surgery We Provide

Inpatient Surgery

Your inpatient surgery is performed at the ACH, where MaineGeneral's operating and recovery rooms for all inpatient treatments are located.

You may be scheduled to visit the hospital before your surgery date for pre-operative testing such as blood tests, X-rays, or an EKG.

Please complete all requested tests before your surgery or your procedure may be delayed or cancelled.

Same Day Surgery

Same day surgery is convenient, letting you go back home where you are most comfortable. It also reduces health care costs.

Our same day surgery staff oversees your entire stay, from the time you arrive for surgery to when you are discharged. They also assist you if you need to be admitted after surgery.

Same day surgery is available at both the ACH and TCH.

Scheduling Same Day Surgery

Your doctor will arrange your surgery date with the hospital. As soon as you know your surgery date, please call (207) 626-1583 or toll-free (800) 343-3400 to register. You also may register online.

Confirming Same Day Surgery

A nurse will call you between 1-4 p.m. the day before your surgery to tell you what time to report to the hospital the next day and to give you any special instructions.

If you haven't heard from a nurse by 4 p.m., please call (207) 626-1462 (Augusta) or (207) 872-1000 (Waterville) to receive your scheduled surgery time.

If you become ill or need to postpone your surgery, please call (207) 626-1000 or (207) 872-1000 as soon as possible.
